BUSY BUSY BUSY in Edinburgh 9-18 & 9-19 Tuesday and Wednesday

Busy is just one word to describe our last two days in this amazing, midievel Disneyland they call Edinburgh Scotland!

There is just so much to see and do we had no time to blog! Sorry about that!

Tuesday all of us caught the Hop on Hop off bus for a tour of the city. Libby and Mary hopped off to the Georgeon House while Roberta, Rose, Paula and Cris went to the National Gallery and saw paintings from Impressionists collection, Van Gogh and Monet. Really a great gallery of all types of art.

We met up again with Mary and Libby for lunch at the White Hart Inn where Cris tried Beef and Ale Pie with peas and she ate the whole thing! The Inn is the supposed to be one of the oldest pubs in Edinburgh.

After lunch we headed to the queens castle, The Palace of Holyroodhouse. This is where Queen Elizabeth resides when she comes to Scotland. We took a tour if the Queens Gallery and palace. One of the highlights of the trip!

9-16-2012 Last day in Ireland

Sept 16 2012 Sunday

Well it is the last day for several in our group they will be flying back tomorrow. Sorry to see everyone go but hoping they have safe flights home!

Six of us will be flying on to Edinburgh, Scotland until Thursday.

Today was fairly quiet with one stop in Clonmacnoise, built in the 1500 by Kirhan who only lived to be 33 yrs old and died of the plague. It is located on the River Shannon between Galway and Dublin. The pictures will not do it any justice- I think you had to be there! It was beautiful!!

Mary and Libby walked all the way to the Malahide Castle and Gardens. However, it was closed. The gardens were gorgeous with beautiful trees and shrubs.

The usual 6 of us were hungry so after checking in to the Grand Hotel we followed our illustrious tour director, Cris, to the Gibney's Pub est in 1937. We had a late lunch or early dinner. Roberta had a great bloody mary so she just had to have another one! Cris got friendly with a man sitting next to our booth and talked him into taking our group picture. Then his wife showed up and offered his services for the day! But we opted to take a picture of him and his wife instead. Nice friendly people in Ireland!!

We are sitting here having a drink at the Grand Hotel in Malahide before leaving either for home or Scotland or Las Vegas for Karen.

Stay tuned for the Scotland adventure in the next few days.....

9-15-2012A merry'ole day in Dingle!

Saturday, September 15
Todays post is written by Paula Roady-

The morning started bright and early with a quick breakfast. We got on the bus to go to Dingle -but wait our troop leader Rose was missing. Rumor has it she contracted the swine flu from eating a large pork chop the night before or maybe it was that bottle of wine or Irish coffee??? Our driver for the tour, John, possibly related to the fellow who was giving the Crypt tours, did a very nice job, including Irish music. We saw Dingle Bay and Tralee Bay by way of the Slea Head. We only stopped 45 minutes for lunch but some of us managed to do some major damage shopping in that short of time. Stopping along the way for a small hike thru a beautiful fuchsia lined lane to admire the tiny Gallarus Oratory.  Back to Killarney, we then set out on foot to tour the two beautiful cathedrals in town. Later that day we found Lisa and Margaret having wine in front of the local pub. Rose, Cris and Paula took a horse drawn carriage ride through the Killarney National Park to Ross castle. A leprechaun sighting was reported but it seems like he was too tired to come home with anybody!
Everyone went their separate ways for dinner and we ended up at Hannigan's Pub next door to the hotel. After dinner we walked the town and then we all hit the sack cause we have an early morning departure to the west coast of Ireland and the city of Galway.
